yes, the monthly is a go, will prob tee off closer to 1030 to allow some travel time and maybe get a few more players. Found my drive on 14 today, just about 5 feet off the road, but lost another one on the same hole in its place

Is that 52 as in 2 under par or 7 under par? What is par up there?

Spoke to Gomez tonight and he thinks that par should be 54, maybe 55 because of Hole 11. WOW. He also said he thought BM was better than Beaver Ranch. That's good.

Hole 11 may be a par 4, but hole 8 is a par 2!
The myth of "par" strikes fear into the hearts of golfers everywhere! But trust me folks, par is just a scary bedtime story told to frighten all the ams. There is no such thing as par.
If you are worrying about what "par" is while you're playing, then you're just setting up mental barriers for yourself. Mike Randolph once told me he tries to think of every hole as a par two! Seems to work alright for him!
Most golfers are way too worried about where they are relative to "par"... "how many birdies have I gotten?"... "how many bogies?"... My advice is to forget about par and just focus on doing the best you can on every hole and every shot.

agreed that par is relative and a little silly as a personal determinator, but it's a nice way to compare courses.
the BM manger said that a FEW holes were designed to be par 4's- so i think 55 is on the tight end. how many times did mr. gomez play the course before hitting a 52?

I'm 99% sure he hadn't played BM prior to the monthly. If anyone sees Gomez, tell him he left his MH tag at leagues on 7/8 (I've got it).

TTDC - (Total Thread Deviation Continued) Sorry, but it got me thinking...
As far as par goes, IMO you can't really say par is 54 up there till you have at least 30-40% of the Open players averaging 54 consistently. Because par typically means "average" this is even a conservative percentage to use. Since only two players scored better than 54 at the Monthly, by one and two strokes respectively, this isn't the case currently. I would, however, say 59 is only reasonable for par since holes are rarely called par 2, even though they might be in reality.
I'm thinking there's about 4 holes out there that will be deuced by at least 30-40% of the field on average, and won't have many 4's or 5's to pull the average the other way (hence the par 2). These are holes 1, 4, 8 and 12. These are also known as "must get birdies"
Then there's 8 holes I think would qualify for par 3 status, following the same logic. Some will probably be deuced a lot, but might see some 4's to change the averages.
For par four's, there's two holes that automatically earn this status in my mind since a 3 is pretty rare or hasn't happened yet (holes 11 and 16). Then there's four holes I'd normally call par 3's, but give a par four rating due to possible 4's and 5's. If you're talking percentages, you have to consider this. These are holes 3, 5, 6, and 14.
This would result in a par of 56, but with the two's actually being 3's, it would climb to 60. There's a few holes (5, 6, 14) which all, I believe, average closer to 3.5 or so, so one or two could be called a par three, resulting in a 59 or 58 par.
This is just my way of thinking about it, and why I think 54 or 55 is too low for par on this course.
After the monthly, Evan was determined to shoot a 49 out there, which would be SICK. But according to a 54 par, this would be a 5 down. Five strokes better than "normal, average". Would that make sense? I think that score would be more in the range of a 9 or 10 down in difficulty.
Once again, just my opinion, and I agree that par is actually irrelavant. It's the number score (54, 59 etc) that really counts!

Thanks BigBeaver, the lengths are good to know. That info will help me lower my score dramatically. Not. But it's still good to know.
