Tomorrow evening the consulting firm "GreenPlay" will submit its conclusions about the state of the parks and suggestions for future parks in Fort Collins. In one month the city council will vote on that final parks plan, according to the schedule on the parks website.
It is our concern that Disc Golf will not be adequately accounted for at this crucial meeting.
It is very important that the needs of Disc Golf in the Fort Collins area be represented in this!
Please write an email to Craig Foreman letting him know how important it is that we resolve the ridiculous over crowding at Edora Park.
Here is his email address.
cforeman@fcgov.com
Please get on the phone or write emails to your friends and implore them to write emails to Craig Forman - today or tomorrow - so that when he enters that meeting tomorrow night he is aware of our dissatisfaction.
Our voice needs to be heard, so please just take a minute or two to write a quick, respectful email in support of disc golf in Ft. Collins. Much thanks to those who have brought this to our attention.
Peace - Evan Brummet

Here's hoping that every NoCo member gets an email off to Craig Foreman today or tomorrow. It is critical. Thanks for posting this Evan.

Thanks for the support Todd.
Hopefully the powers that be will acknowledge the issues and propose a suitable solution to alleviate the problems.

We had a good turnout at the meeting showing support of disc golf, a better turnout than any other user-group, I hear. The Parks Plan Update has now moved on to City Council, and club members/ players have approached council to request additional attention to the lack of courses in town.
Council will be considering both sides of the issue in the near future, in addition to the many other park/recreation needs, and will be deciding whether to adopt the Parks Planning Dept's proposal.
We have heard there is some movement toward more courses in town, but nothing is concrete yet.
A big thanks goes out to everyone who sent emails or made calls supporting disc golf. Your voice has been heard, and I feel this will help our cause.
Hope that helps, we'll keep you updated.

Has anyone read these ridiculous comments afterward. I was trying to set up a profile and my computer pooped out on me. I will try again, later.

Saw that one, Doug, and the official article is now up under this title: "Disc Golf Crowds a Problem" coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080407/NEWS01/804070330/1002/CUSTOMERSERVICE02IF YOU CAN write intelligently, and in a positive, informed way, please add a comment saying thanks to the Coloradoan for covering the need for a new course in town. Please don't get sucked into an argument with the "trolls" of the coloradoan forums. They are relentless, and we need to keep disc golf portrayed in a positive light. City Council will be reading this article, no doubt. If you can't represent disc golf well, please refrain from commenting as there is a lot at stake right now for the future of disc golf in the area.

DG has emerged from the shadows in Fort Collins. The City Council will begin discussions on the future of parks and Disc Golf in the city tonight, an article about the crowding at Edora Park appeared in the Coloradoan yesterday, an article will appear in Fort Collins Now tomorrow, and another article will appear in that paper shortly.
Hopefully the days of being treated like second class citizens by the Parks Planning Department are over.
Depending on the statements made by Parks tonight, we may need a show of support at a City Council meeting in the near future, so please be ready to show your presence if requested.

I know you hate being single out reknw, but without your hard work and dedication to this sport(and now the FTC community) this would have been much tougher. Thanks again for what you've done, and you give the call and I'm sure many of us will attend this upcoming city council meeting. On another note, there is about two pages of comments on the Coloradoan's article website. There are some very good points made on both sides of the discussion. We need to remember that other park users have good reasons for their position. They may want to be a little to drastic(such as pulling the whole course), but they are just as much of the community as we are. That being said, we should make a very concerted effort to minimalize ANY altercations with ANY fellow park users. We all know how to be courteous, so let's show them.

The Mayor and four of the five City Council members present mentioned Disc Golf to the Parks Department tonight, and expressed concern that Disc Golf be included in plans. The fifth, Ben Manvel, already spoke up for DG on March 18th.
If any of you are so inclined, an expression of thanks to each of the council members would be a good thing.
The subject line should be "Thank you for supporting Disc Golf in Fort Collins"
Their email addresses:
Mayor Hutchinson dhutchinson@fcgov.com
Kelly Ohlson kohlson@fcgov.com
Lisa Poppaw lpoppaw@fcgov.com
Dave Roy droy@fcgov.com
Wade Troxell wtroxell@fcgov.com
Ben Manvel bmanvel@fcgov.com
It's a good start.
