Greetings everyone,
I have the task of putting together an interest group for high school age guys and possibly girls. I was thinking with the growing interest of disc golf over the years this would be perfect. This can be for all skill levels, but I am guessing most of them will have never played or just play for fun at Edora. The group is planning to start sometime in October.
What I am looking for are volunteers that wouldn't mind talking the time to help myself lead a group to help them improve their game, take them to other courses on the northern front range, and possibly even run a mini tournament of some sort.
I plan on starting off with a group game at Edora, taking all the scores for everyone. Then from there have mini workshops on little improvements they can do to make their game better. In doing this I can help track their improvement over time. In the winter months we probably won't be able to play outside, so I was thinking of setting up crazy putting scenarios inside, 100 ft holes down the hallway or something like that.
I am also looking for donated discs for a good cause. Not all of these kids have the kind of money to get a disc for themselves, I am shooting for a putter and driver for each kid. They can be beat to crap, or brand stinking new. The more discs I have to hand out the better.
Lastly, this is a church interest group. The plan is to tie disc golf into God and our faith as a Christian. If you plan to volunteer, there will need to be a background check. I know this is asking a lot, but since we are working with kids, this is for their safety, which I think would be understandable, because you would want to know that your kid is in good hands as well.
If the whole church thing isn't for you, that is totally understandable, I just ask that you respect what I am trying to do to grow disc golf in our community.
If you have any questions or concerns or even suggestions you can call or email me at any time. Also please feel free to post here your opinions on how I can do this better, as doing something of the sort is completely new to me.
