nothing has happened yet. We have had discussions with them Craig Forman is not helpfull at all and is against all ideas we have my idea is to email City counsil members and tell them we are tired of being treated like red headed step childern. (my wife is sick of me calling us that) We went to the parks advisiory board and they suggested we look to other communities if you are interested in helping email me @ bryan@nocodiscgolf.com

What ideas have you proposed? What do they intend to do? What's the plan of attack for us to be heard? I think it's rediculous for us to look to other communities when disc golf's been in this community for at least 30 years. It's BS to abandon it now.

This is my first post and I'm not an officer. I'm sorry you feel you're kept in the dark. If club members would like to see the presentation I gave to the Park and Rec advisory board, you may call a meeting and I'll show it for those present. We are making progress with the Parks department, after the presentation they asked questions and discussed our plight for over 30 minutes and they are now aware of the incredible numbers of non-college students who play at Edora, the overcrowding of the park, the importance of Disc Golf to FC residents and to non-residents. They are keeping us in mind and will look for any pieces of land that come up as possible DG course sites. The presentation was not meant to be hush/hush any more than initiating the petition, or taking pictures was meant to be hush hush. I don't spend time on discussion boards, and most likely won't post again. When the time is right we can all get together at a meeting and I'll fill you in on the details. In the meantime keep your frustration level to a minimum, and feel confident that Disc Golf won't be disappearing from Edora, and may, as land availability permits, exist elsewhere in FC. Rich

Thanks for the summary Rich. Rich has been instrumental in the progress that has been made with the city so far, and continues to do more than his share.
I agree with you Jeff. I think more frequent updates would be a good idea.
Maybe a club meeting is in order to bring everyone who cares up to speed. I'm positive that no one is trying to keep anyone else in the dark, though.

there is no clandestine meetings taking place, I believe KC is doing a great job of posting the ones we've had, the fact that nothing is being done is actually a good thing. If you remember their was a time that we were going to lose holes thirteen through sixteen and we are (to Richs credit and hard work) not under fire anymore. I could be firing a email to some people to get some tee pads poured for holes thirteen and fourteen but, I'm looking at the forum because I'm told that the officers aren't paying enough attention to them. I'm not a forum kinda guy unless its in Playboy. I'm going to post a big thank you to Rich if I have time so its not hidden in a thread that will cover up to the minute details of the last thing we've done. We are talking about a meeting that will be posted soon and I would love to have Jeff Martin back in the fold as an officer if you have the time again.

I didn't really mean to post on this thread, but somehow am being blocked from posting on the recent "Club Leadership Activity - Updates" thread. I'm psyched to have a separate thread that lists official activity so that us little people don't have to keep asking about stuff that's burried in older threads with piles of banter. One idea I'd like to float out there is to also include the more fomalized efforts of non-officers. The post about Rich K. is what immediately comes to mind. Though he's not an officer, it'd be nice to keep abreast of his efforts, both to reinforce his contribution and also to give others a starting point if they want to help. This could help us to work as a team, building upon each others efforts. Of course there'll always be times when "behide the scenes" efforts are necessary. That's politics. Some people are good with politics, some are good at finding and throwing around new courses, some are think tanks, and some are content to just sit back and enjoy what's already out there. Take advantage of each persons strengths and motivations.

The Updates thread is locked to avoid the multitudes of posts that would end up there and drown out the actual updates. To respond, just do what you did and post on a relevant thread or start a new one to address something specifically. Believe me, we are so thankful for the active, involved members we have within the club. There are a handful of club members who help in their own particular ways, and are not part of the board or an elected officer. There are enough, actually, that there are too many to mention specifically and not leave anyone out. Here is a short (and probably incomplete) list of some who come to mind. This may help everyone understand what being a volunteer part of this club is all about: - Brandon running Sunday's for the entire season
- Eric D, Evan, Dan B all helping Dave with Summer League
- Whoever has been doing Thursday doubles (I can never make it out ;D )
- Evan volunteering to be our liaison with FCHS regarding their course
- Chad J (Ocho Cinco) designing two sweet new logos for us
- Tom O. being the catalyst for and helping with our dealings with the city and county.
- Doug A spending countless hours and days dealing with course issues at Edora and working with Parks employees
- JMart most recently lighting a fire under our arses
- etc, etc, and many more...
We still have actual positions available for those who'd like to help out including Marketing/Outreach Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Tagmaster, and recently Jeff S stepped down from the Director of Developement position. Time commitment varies, and is pretty minimal for these. Summaries of these from the last election are available here. I think an important part of your post is your mention of "working as a team". I feel this is crucial, and needs to be taken literally. If anyone wants to assist us with the presentations, they need to contact Rich, Bill W, or one of the club officers directly. To just start calling people of their own volition could compromise progress made already. This is one reason every detail isn't posted the minute it happens. As you said, there is a huge amount of politics involved, especially with the city of FC. Rich, in an email, asked me specifically for us to stop singling him out with regards to his efforts. He wants everyone to recognize that it is a group effort including Dave Herrmann, Bryan McEndaffer, myself, Bill Wright, Tom Ohlschwager. He just happens to be very good at giving presentations . It's too bad he doesn't visit forums much, as there would be a lot less typing for me to do. Get involved, people. Come to the next meeting, vote at the election meeting, better yet step up for an actual position within the club. We have a LOT going on, and more to do. We need everyones skills, assistance and energy!

Hey,
After taking the time to read through much of the forum, it's apparent that an obligation exists to post an update on what some of us have been up to. KC's informative posts are much appreciated, as are the posts containing accolades in this direction, even though they are misplaced. The progress we are making is the result of a group effort as KC mentions. The chemistry in the group is good and we each have different responsibilities. KC has done a tremendous amount of work identifying possible sites for new courses, no small feat considering the tangle of jurisdictions over the various land parcels in the area. He continues to wade through the puzzle and is preparing a wish list of spots to propose to the appropriate departments. Dave and Bryan work to get us on the agendas of various agencies, initiating contact and following up when needed to get us past the gate keepers, and attend the meetings. Tom O attends the meetings with the Boards and gives Disc Golf a sense of legitimacy through his longtime residency, his status as a family man whose whole family plays the game, and the good points he makes during the meetings. Tom really got the ball rolling on this through his email to City Council this summer. Bill patiently guides us through this endeavor, sharing his wisdom gained over the last 25 years of patiently dealing with local bureaucracies. His presence at the meetings, like Tom's, gives us credibility and his vast knowledge of all things Disc helps keep the rest of us from looking like fools.
We show a short presentation on Disc Golf in the Fort Collins area. At the two presentations given thus far we have been limited to 15 minutes of time so it's challenging to provide enough information to accurately convey all the great aspects of the sport. But we reveal the numbers of people going through Edora, the low impact of Disc Golf on budgets and the environment, and its appeal to both genders, all ages, and all shapes and sizes. The good news is that following each presentation we have been peppered with questions from Board Members for approximately 30 to 40 minutes. It's apparent that our presence is piquing their curiosity, and their interest in DG's plight is readily evident. We have heard statements like "I had no idea Disc Golf was so popular," and "These numbers are staggering!" and many more encouraging comments. The questions asked of us are insightful, and they indicate an openness to assist us in locating suitable spots for more DG courses. We will continue these efforts with as many local entities as possible.
Have we yet been offered land? No, but we've just begun, so be patient. Are we making progress? You bet, in far more ways than can be mentioned here.
There are two areas in which we need help / cooperation.
1. We need the areas around some of the eroded spots mulched AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. We rec'd permission to do this in June from the heads of Parks. It is absolutely essential that this gets done so that we can show the positive impact Disc Golfers have on the Park. Somebody please figure out who is to head this project, contact Eric D at the Wright Life and Dan ? (Eric will know his last name) who both were eager at one time to do this, and interface with Lee Ann to get this done in a suitable and professional manner. I will lend a hand also. Any other volunteers would be appreciated.
2. A post in the forum suggesting setting up temporary Disc Golf courses in various places with flags is about the worst thing we could do at this time. If any citizen was hit with a Disc resulting in a complaint to Parks it would be the final nail in our coffin. Please do not do this. If someone feels further explanation of this matter is necessary it will be given verbally, not on this forum.
Hope this is sufficient information for anyone interested.
