As a female disc golfer I do not mind those other holes in the long positions but I think the new hole placement is out of control long and I would end up skipping it to play the standard 18 hole course. I like a challenging hole with trees and what not because that takes skill and accuracy. Anything longer than 450 seems to be discouraging because I struggle with the distance.

Thanks for the input Discgolfchick! Great to hear some input from the ladies!
As far as the first extra's long placement, it will hopefully be just one of many placements. I see no reason why we can't eventually install some shorter placements (or look into some closer teeboxes) to help appease ladies/juniors and less experienced golfers. I think, in the end, we would regret not taking full advantage of the space available to us.
Our course is very flexible, it can be set up to have about six hard-to-get 3's and many difficult two's, or it can be set up with almost fifteen less difficult birdie shots and the rest easy 3's. That is a sign of a great course! This is just adding another challenging option to the variety of our course. I would hate to see this hole long all the time, or at the same time as all the other holes are in their long spots (except tourney's). I think this hole is probably around the same length, and in my opinion easier than, holes one and ten long.
As with any sport, as time passes, records are broken, and the average skill level increases. The demand for more difficult options will only increase. As of now, we have 2 courses in town that are quite easy, one that has more added challenge, but only one that can be considered a competition level course. Since we have no immediate options for a new championship level course, we have to look at Edora as our flagship course in town.
I feel very strongly that the club needs to help more ladies, juniors, and more people in general find the love for disc golf. That is a very important part of why we exist! We also need to help all players take their games to new levels, which really increases the enjoyment level for a person. I think this is equally important whether it's your first time throwing a disc, or if you are the best in the country! We need to keep everyone's needs in mind.

Discgolfchic~ Would you like to be instrumental in helping the club design a good shorter tee pad for the first alternate hole after hole #13? I would be happy to meet you out there at your convenience to get your ideas and perspective. This is precisely why we are having a trial period for these holes, to get feedback and to fine tune or tweak things around to best fit what people think would be good holes. I think having a short and a long teepad would suit this hole very well. Let me know your timing Doug

I gotta say the more I think about the layout of these two holes the more I'm beginning to like them. I think there may be a little more we could do for the second alt., however what that is, eludes me. They both flow well and I think the first in that long position is just brutal(in a good way). Thanks for steppin up DGA, you done a good job!!

Thanks Jeff I have been wondering about a tee-pad for the second alternate up and to the right of where it is now, kinda in those trees up the hill a little bit. It might be worth looking into for an option, it would be a little more secluded and further from the playground today we are in the perfect storm. An old Native American Indian saying is "Little snow, big snow.....big snow, little snow." It means if the flakes are little then a lot of snow will accumulate but if the flakes are big then it won't get very deep. It is small flakes out there right now.
