In the history of disc golf, has anyone ever had a disc returned to them by a stranger? Seems like a world of empty hope putting your name and number all over your $12 discs unless you're losing them left and right. I'm pretty sure the trolls at Edora aren't calling around after swimming in the leech pond for their "precious" Let me know if I'm wrong, I've got the sharpie right here!

mike, i lose discs, water bottles, seats all the time. people tell me its like a walking yard sale people have called me back for discs though. if a troll finds it it is gone for sure. most casual players know what it feels like to lose a disc so those are the ones that call. words like MAJOR REWARD or KEEP YOUR KARMA NOT THIS DISC is what i like to use. good to see ya jumpin in the mix here jm also i read your post about tues. and there are no words to use to apologize for others actions c'mon out and play a round tonight aroun 530 i will be out there jm

I don't put my phone number on discs, because if I lose one it was probably up a tree or in the water... if I wasn't willing to climb or swim to get it back and somebody else was, they deserve to keep it. Also, I try not to become too attached to any specific discs... I wouldn't want that to influence my decision making come tournament time. There is always another disc out there that can do the job. I have had a lot of discs come back to me though, one way or another, over the years.
I once had a disc travel internationally and across the country to make its way back to me! I usually only mark my name or PDGA # on the disc (since you have to mark your discs for sanctioned tournament play) and once I lost a disc at a tournament in Kansas City that only had my PDGA number on the bottom. Months later I got my disc in an envelope in the mail. There was no note or anything with it, but the postage had it coming from the PDGA headquarters, which at the time were located in Toronto, ON. With only my number (14763) to guide it, my disc had somehow traveled from Kansas City to Toronto and into the hands of the PDGA who were able to look up my info and do the good deed of sending that little disc back home to me! That's my best lost and found disc story!

These are reassuring stories.
I was actually afraid that I'd lose a disc in the drink, then some troll would fish it out, then he'd beam a kid playing soccer at Edora, then he'd bolt the other way, then the cops (or violent father) would come ringing me up since my signature and contact info just gave some tyke a closed head injury.
I have a very active imagination! I almost lost someone elses disc today when he was teaching me how to toss better. Was kind of hoping his number was on it!!! I worry more about others losing their crap than about me losing mine. -Michael

I always call if there's a # on the disc. Recently, a guy from Loveland called me about a disc I'd lost. He held on to it and I got it back a few days later. On most discs, I write "I'd call you," hoping that they'll feel a little guilty if they don't. Sometimes I get 'em back that way, other times I've bought the same disc three times from the used bin at the WL after someone's sold it back to them. Sometmes, the little munchkins will fish 'em out and sell 'em back to you at hole #1. I don't mind givin' 'em a few bucks if it's a disc I'd really like to get back. I offered up a new idea, but noone has said much about it. Check it out @ ncdgc.proboards75.com/index.cgi?board=ideas&action=display&thread=1183838924

Honestly its not too common for the amount of discs that I have lost, but I have had about 7-10 calls or returns over the last 5 years. I had a guy that found my old elite-X wasp call me from Cali!! I lost it by the ocean at Big Sur and the dude said it turned up in Santa Cruz! Also a Denver blaster Fratch Diesel moved here from Omaha years back and right when I met him he realized what my name was, went back to his car and pulled out a Roc from like 01'....one of my 1st discs that I had lost a year or two b/f. I also just had a someone call me when I left my QMS at Boltz a couple of weeks ago. Have faith!!!!
