Just a head's up....states will be in Palisade in 2008. What a great idea, having the state championship more than 5 hours away from 96.3% of the population of CO.

yeah, saw that too. It is a good thing that proponents of disc golf are willing to run a tournament in this state, but it is a loong way to go for most . Wonder if we could get them to rent us a bus.

I like the idea of states moving around, it's just a drag that this was the first year that I was planning on going. Doubt I'll make the trek, but who knows, I may still try and make it. They're splitting Open and Ams between two different weekends also. That is going to make carpools and the sort a little difficult for some. We'll have to lobby for the '09 states to be here in the Fort or up in Redfeather.

I'm stoked they moved it from down South...I would rather drive 5 hours through the mountains and Glenwood Canyon than driving down I-25. Is an hour and a half really that different? And I'm down with the 3 round and final nine format...
Since I began playing disc, states has been down south but before that the tradition was for it to move around regularly ...states in the Fort was common in the 90's.
Although this will definitely negatively affect the attendance having it on different weekends in a such a remote location...

The point is: make the tournament more centralized so that more players can come. Most people have to work in the morning the following day and will either have to ask off for another day, go to work EXHAUSTED, or not play the tournament. The drive back from Widefield is long enough, right after the tourney, let alone practically driving back from Utah. I almost fell asleep at the wheel! (ask Evan). The COLORADO state tournament should also reflect the nature of the state: MOUNTAINS. If you're gonna move it, why not move it to a mountain course? cough*WinterPark*cough. Simplicity and practicality.

well put Mr. Johnson...fully agree that having states in a centralized locate makes far more sense...and I've always felt that not having the CO state tournament in the mountains is crazy...I guess I was just happy to see it move from Widefield and Pueblo knowing how many other great courses this state has.

Seems like a loooooong time from now. If it's that important, can you just put it on your calendar and plan around it rather than waiting until the last minute before deciding whether to go? Book the hotel tomorrow, make it happen. I drive to Rifle to climb over and over and over again. It's really no big deal if you're psyched. Get off work on Friday, drive, sleep, play, sleep, play, drive home.
I was checking out the website for the northern arizona disc golf club. They hold tournaments with huge turnouts in the middle of nowhere. Very few Arizonans live in northern Arizona, but they somehow motivate.
I guess I'm coming across as a self righteous bastard, and I'm sorry for that. One more thing though: Aren't there people who put in the time to organize, plan, fund-raise, etc to make these things happen? Either work with them, or just thank them for their effort.
By the way, I won't be going. I don't really like tournaments in any sport. I just do it for fun. But if people come back and say it was a great course, I'll probably play it some day when I'm down there.
Cheers and happy new year to all.
