Hey All, just checking in from sunny South Carolina. I'm here at the United States Disc Golf Championship! We just got in yesterday afternoon, picked up the rental car, checked into our hotel, and got out to the course for a bit... There are still a few holes I haven't played yet, cause it got dark on us, but from what I've seen, the course is amazing! I can easily see how Mitch could have gone OB 35 times one year at this tournament. almost every hole is a "Oh nuts" tee shot! Rod Baca and I are heading to the course now... so I'll write more later. Peace - Evan

Hey all, sorry I didn't get to write again sooner... I've been having trouble getting online here. This is the most professional tournament I've ever experienced... which is pretty cool. Everything that was dissappointing in that regard at worlds, has been great here. If Disc Golf has any future as a proffesional sport, this is how it needs to be.
Our players package was sweet! Got a bunch of custom stuff: Backpack, longsleeve shirt, fleece, discs, and more!
My first impression of the course was that it's great... after a few tournament rounds I still think its good, but there is a certain degree of... flukyness... that is involved. There is so much OB and somewhat unreasonable fairways at times. There are some holes where the only way you can put your shot in bounds is to throw it out of bounds and have it skip back in... if you land it in bounds it will skip out. I've seen a lot of people get unlucky with all the OB. Sometimes you skip... once in a while you won't. Some of the greens play as islands and you don't get to take it on the island unless your throw landed safe. So you might throw a good shot that skips off the island... and you have to rethrow the same shot... It's a strange course that can allow the same player to shoot a 58 and then a 70... a few bad or good breaks can make a huge difference. It's still a really fun course to play though, as long as you can take your bad holes in stride.
The first round on Wednesday was sunny and Rod Baca and Mike Randolph scorched the course for a 60, putting them in a tie for 2nd. That is an awesome score! I played pretty well, minus a few bad holes, and I shot a 73!
Today (Thursday) It was rainy off and on and Mike did pretty good again (in 4th overall), while Rod struggled a bit. I didn't play very well, and got a few more bad breaks than the first round... but I left plenty of room for improvement tomorrow, so I got that going for me. Actually I had one of the least enjoyable rounds I've had all year. Everyone on my card was struggling and a few of them were pretty unpleasant to play with because of it. It was a real downer. Hopefully I'll have a fun group tomorrow.
Well, I'll try to post again if I can get back online. Peace - Evan

I had a better round today; finally got under par. I didn't putt well but I threw very well and kept it in bounds for the most part. If I had been putting decently I could have had a pretty hot round but I'm still happy with my 67. Mike finished strong today after some earlier struggles and is still in 4th place. He made an amazing 45-foot downhill suicide putt on the 18th hole for a big gallery! Pretty sweet! I played with a fun group including Greg Schwartz (ex-amworld champ) and Christian Sandstrom (Swedish big gun). I'm off to the players party now... free food and unlimited beer... hhhmmmm... could be some high scores in the morning. Peace - Evan

Evan- it's quite crazy of all the peole you have had on the cards this week, I happen to know 2 of them. John and I have partied plenty of times at our buddy spikes place and Greg played in many of the tournies I played back in IL. He's also part of the Frolfin Illini, the club at UofI. I agree, both are cool guys. Good luck out there. It's kinda interesting to see all of the players that I have tossed with not to mention all of the previous AM Worlds players.

Yeah I saw an Illini logo disc being thrown out there that I know my Dad would love to have (being an Illini alum). John's a good man, we partied it up at the players party. Your buddy Spike, who you mentioned, is a classic Colorado Golfer Spike Walker right? He was always at all the tournaments here back in the day. I've played with him a bunch, always alot of fun.
Well USDGC is complete, and I got to go pack and get ready to fly home. I had a fun final round yesterday; we were making side-bets since we didn't have much chance to cash. I shot a couple over, which could have been a couple under if I knew how to putt.... but of course, I don't. Oh well, at least I made the cut to Saturday! Rod played solid the last round and stayed in the cash, good to see. Randolph was in 3rd (1 ahead of Feldberg) going into the last hole of the round, but had a rough finish. He got a triple circle 8 and slipped from third to 10th. He was pretty bummed, but he still played some great golf all week! Climo won easy as he shot course-record 56's (-12) the last two rounds! That is an unbeleivable score! Climo actually bogied the last hole, which he'd been birdying, the last round to fall back from -13 to -12. He was one bad skip away from shooting -14. That's ridiculous! I think a few under is a really good score out there.
Some of the distance throwers were crushing across the lake at the end... man there were some big crushes... that was fun to see!
This was the greatest disc golf event I've been a part of... it is quite an experiance. Everyone who can should try there best to qualify for this event next year. I didn't do as well as I would like to, but I was glad to be a part of such a professional event. Like Rory Self (from AZ) told me, he didn't expect or care if he did well here, "this is my reward for playing well all year long." I think that's a good way of looking at it. The course is brutal and the competition is of the highest caliber. These are the best golfers in the world playing on the highest platform the sport has to offer. It's cool to a part of that.
See you all in the Fort! - Evan

Great words, Evan. Glad to see you had the right outlook on the experience. Someday I'll get out there!
Climo, geez... That guy can really turn it on sometimes!
