There will be a 18 hole course.. Just not two.. They will remove nine holes at Edora and have 18 at Hughes.. Still foe filling there requirement.. It was for a 18 hole course, it isn't specific as to where.

I thought Hughes will be provided by CSU not the city of Fort Collins? The city cannot duck its responsibility because CSU has provided what they needed to, unless there is a public vote.

The city is leasing the land from CSU to build the course. It is a joint venture to get the course put in.

I am wonder how long is the current lease? How much to renew the lease in the future? How much money in the grant was given towards disc golf?

Those are all question that you would have to ask Bill Wright..

It does me as well. All year long I was being told and telling people that there would be two disc golf 18 hole courses in Ft Collins. And that all our hard work and patience had paid off. But that was never the cities intent. There is a letter from Craig Foreman to the city council that says Edora would be made a nine hole after Hughes course is complete. It was filed in July. I'm having a hard time being positive about all this. I guess I have only one choice. Play where ever I can and be happy I still have something whatever it might be..
(me getting upset) When I started playing this silly game that I have grown to love. We played in parks and any place we could. Just aim for that trash can or tree. I guess we can always go back to our roots. If I just show up at City Park and start throwing discs at objects. How can they ask me to leave. It's a public park.. Just go safari the hole stinking town. People play catch with footballs and baseballs. Kids shoot off rockets.. Just as dangerous as us.. What other sport has been treated this way? Where is disc golf mecca?

I really wish more information was available, since I don't know what is happening. It seems the city is looking at this from a business point of view, since they would only have to purchase 9 baskets by taking 9 baskets from Edora. This is why I was wondering how much money, if any was given to disc golf. I don't recall the exact details of the Coloradoan, but it seemed like this was suppose to be a step forward for disc golf in FOCO. I feel a follow up article in Coloradoan is justly deserved to share the true story and planned future of disc golf. I don't think we should just let it happen without having a consorted effort to save Edora. I hope this topic was brought up at the last club meeting. IMO, this should be the clubs number 1 goal.

I know that the club is aware. As to what they are doing I can't say. I agree this is a very important fight that the club should take. Even if we don't win and keep Edora. It's a chance for us to voice to the city how we feel about the situation. I will lend my voice to the fight.

Quick update for anyone wondering what's going on - I've had several meetings with Bill Wright and from his viewpoint it sounds like there is nothing we can do to prevent the city from taking out half of Edora, once the new Hughes course is complete.
However, the club is in the process of hiring legal counsel to determine what actions (such as petitioning/gathering signatures, presenting our case to city council) we can take to change the city's mind.
I know this is a painful and upsetting topic for many people (myself included.) We are open to ideas and suggestions you all may have. I'll try to update here if I learn anything new. Luc

Watch yourself out there. I've heard that you are in the line of fire on a lot of the tee pads. Lets keep the disc on disc crime down.

For what it's worth, here's an email I sent to 4 members of the City Council this morning. Good luck to all of you working on this project. Dear Mr. Troxell, In Tuesday's City Council meeting you asked Mr. Heffernan when the Disc Golf course was established. His reply was 1995. The course was established in 1989. Of course, I wouldn't expect Mr. Heffernan to know the answer, he never gave an ounce of attention to enhancing the Disc Golf experience in Fort Collins until he had no other choice, prompted by the outcry from Disc Golfers. www.pdga.com/course_directory/course/edora-parkFurthermore, didn't the people of Fort Collins vote for an 18 hole course at Edora? The will of the people should not be undermined by an administrative decision by a person who has failed at every turn to recognize the popularity, viability, and historic significance of Disc Golf in Fort Collins and at Edora. I find it hard to believe that 5 years after we Disc Golfers spent countless hours surveying the community, performing a count of Disc Golf users at Edora, presenting information to the Parks and Rec Board, (yes, we Disc Golfers had to do all the heavy lifting because the Park and Rec people were too blind and backward to understand the reality of Disc Golf in Fort Collins and around the entire nation), and pleading for MORE 18 hole courses to alleviate the overcrowding at Edora's Course, the only solution Mr. Heffernan can propose is to slash Edora's Course and force people onto an immature 18 Hole course on the outskirts of town for the next 8 years!! I don't hear Mr. Heffernan proposing to eliminate bike trails when accidents occur on them. I do hear people discussing solutions to problems with bicycle safety, which is the appropriate course of action. The same should be done with Disc Golf at Edora Park, find solutions, don't eliminate holes. Mr. Heffernan''s response to Kelly's question about when the next Disc Golf course might be planned was a non-answer!! He couldn't answer because he could care less. There are no plans for more Disc Golf courses. I was greatly involved in the efforts to awaken the City Council to Heffernan's assault on Disc Golf. I sat in on those meetings in 2007 and 2008. Heffernan talked about redesigns. Not once did he mention cutting the number of holes at Edora. While the rest of the country moves forward with Disc Golf, Fort Collins, under the leadership of Mr. Heffernan, moves backward. UNBELIEVABLE. Sincerely, Rich Knowles

First I would like to thank all of you that went and spoke on behalf of Edora. I was not able to attend. I don't think they will stop their idea of reducing Edora, but it was nice to see them get caught in their lies about how we were told about the reduction. This looks like an on going fight to keep them honest. And I feel so bad for the city planner that is afraid to ride his bike through Edora. How many near misses occur with bikes everyday. Hummm..
