I just looked at the proposed layout. Thanks for the link. Does anyone know who is in charge of course design, basket install, etc. Is it someone who has designed courses before? I would be interested in helping out doing a few work days. Looks like it will be a while before anything happens. There are no trees planted and they are just beginning to do new stone entry signs. If anyone has any contact info, let me know. Thanks -Colin

You might have heard of him.. His name is Bill Wright.. I know they ordered baskets and have plans for 250 trees. I'm not sure if they will just let anyone work on the course or if it has to be city people. I can't wait. Well I guess I'll have to.. ;D

OK so the news has broke about Edora becoming a nine hole course after Hughes is completed. Well if you haven't been by the new site at the stadium lately there are many new trees and basket collars in the ground. Talking with Bill Wright he said "they will put in trees now and small shrubs next spring". I hope that having a disc golf course in a area that is not a park will work better than the over crowded situation we have at Edora. I love Edora and it will allays have a place in my heart, so many good times. Ultimately safety must come first and with our sport growing as much as it has in the last 10 years the strain was to much for a park with so many activities. I hope with all my disc golf being that Hughes is the answer for disc golf in Ft Collins..
Long live the flying disc in FOCO..

Someone asked me how I felt about Edora being nine and what the city was thinking. I thought I would share it with you guys too. In all reality, the disc golfer that couldn't wait 5 sec, or threw into people, or golfers that would yell at people on the course, did it. We have nothing to say when the city asks " do you see people getting hit in the park" or " Have you seen disc golfer yelling at people and telling them to @#$^*& move or will hit you". If I'm honest I can't say no. With so many people and so little in the way of personal responsibility, I could see no other option for disc golf here. I'm glad that they did at least build us a new course. Even if it won't be really good for 10 years, when the trees grow up.. It pains me so much to even think about it. I should be out playing it everyday, but I don't want to think about it any other way.

This is an unfortunate and very sad news for disc golf in Fort Collins. IMO, the new course looks like a sugar coated turd. Who wants to play in a field with small trees?
How is turning Edora into a 9 hole course going to solve the problem? There will be same amount of players on half the holes. This doesn't make sense, and will cause more of the same problems mentioned. Plus, these are normal / typical issues that happen at any popular course. Have any of you guys ever heard of a course being cut in half because it was too popular?
Who made this decision?

They are looking at moving us to the most unpopulated area the park has. I hear what your saying, but the city makes all the decisions. Craig Foreman is the man in charge of deciding how much and what each park gets. I have never understood Ft Collins government. I guess I never will. I just don't understand why they don't see us as a real sport. They think of us just a recreational thing. They have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on tennis and ball fields and even dog parks. I don't know what we have to do to get them to see us as something they should care about.. Not just something they have to deal with..

The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so I think our club needs to make some noise. It seems apparent the city doesn't take us serious. We could hire ( or pro bono) an attorney to represent us and be our voice.

I think we are past that point with the city. I wish they would just give us some land. That way we could build our own course. They could charge us a license fee. I would be more than happy to pay a fee to play a course made by us. They could have the park ranges come by. Just like fishing. But as long as it is free we don't have any say. No matter what are numbers are. We have in the past sat in on city council meeting about the future of disc golf. It doesn't seem to have any affect. The funny thing is of all the other cities I've been to this is the only one that acts this way.. I mean look at Johnny Roberts in Denver.. How do they deal with the issues?

I agree with what is done is done. However, looking forward and it is an option that would get their attention. The last thing they want is bad press. Personally, I don't want to have to wait 10 years to play on a decent local course. Especially, since I am already 40 years old. The stadium course is going to be like the CSU field course that no one plays. Who wants to play in a field with small trees?! Also, isn't the first couple of holes where people go to sled. People aren't going to stop sledding. We have to let them know this solution does not solve the problems for the city.
There is a lot of land they can let us use. It is up to us to convince them. We only need one council person to support our cause. Each council person should have the authority to help develop a course in their own district. While I lived in Mobile, Alabama, our local disc golfers were able to get land for a new course with this approach.
Also, I would be more then willing to pay to play on a small ball course with disc baskets.

Land in FOCO is hard to come by. That's why in the past you find someone that has land and will let us put a course there. Like at the Sundance ranch. And as far as us playing on a golf course, that is being looked at as well..

Valid valid point.
The bike trails offer a lot of land, especially in North and South Fort Collins. The Poudre River Trail and Fossil Creek Trail could be made into courses.

My understanding is that there was vote by the people of fort collins via ballots for an 18 hole disc golf course provided by the city of Fort Collins. To overturn this, it would have to be done by vote of the people not city council. The city is obligated to provide an 18 hole disc golf course. Bill Wright is responsible for that move in the 90's and is the only legal foothold I see.
