Just saw this event pop up. Kinda short notice... This tournament has always been held in January. Are there more details available? Why is it only 1 round and why is the payout only for the top 4 in each division? Is this event a fundraiser as well? Curious for more info on this...

What is an estimate of the end time for the tournament? I need to be somewhere at 2:00 pm, so 1 round works good for me. It's a good decision to have it in December, rather then January.

Still no word on why this is only 1 round or why only the top 4 are getting paid out??? I was just wondering if there was some special reason for that... usually only fundraiser tournaments are structured like that... What if there are 15 or 20 Open players? Are we supposed to invest $15 on just 1 round in hopes of having one of the top 4 scores? I know it's not all about the money, but that seems like a stretch. Where is the rest of the money going? Or is the entire purse going toward those 4 spots? Just wondering... I'd like to play, but that scenario doesn't seem fair. Am I missing something?

Who were the top four? It was crazy windy, but a nice day.

It's crap like this why I hung up my bag for good. I got so sick of this passive aggressive, questioning everything bullnuts. I tried my best to make the league a much more beginner friendly/fun place last year, but it just seems like the old guard wanted to keep it the same way. I wish you the best of luck Bruce! You are a solid guy and I know you will get the job done, but you have a hell of an uphill battle ahead of you.

Hey Bill, you should elaborate on whatever point you're getting at. I'm unclear... are you criticizing my posts... or the topic of the thread? I've never really understood your position. I always thought the club was trying to work toward the things you wanted, but you never seemed to think that was the case. Sometimes those things are just a communication breakdown... Maybe it was my fault for misunderstanding what you were saying. Regardless, you should speak your mind so that the current leadership might hear what you have to say and do a better job of addressing those concerns.
In any case, you shouldn't let all that stuff get you down on playing the game. I may voice my disagreement with Bruce or others at times about how some things should be done, but we're all still friends. I think we should all remember that it is ultimately about throwing frisbees and having fun with friends. Everything else should be secondary to that. Hope to see you out on the course sometime.
Peace - Evan

Bill,
It seems odd that you would stop playing disc golf altogether because you got rubbed the wrong way over some disagreements you had with the club. That says more about you than the club IMO. I don't think Evan's post was passive aggressive or even just aggressive at all. I think it is perfectly rational to question where the money is going. It should have nothing to do with whether you're professional, amateur, competitive, or casual about disc golf. If I pay $20 dollars for a tournament and it seems that only $10 is going to pay out, I'm going to question where that other $10 is going. The same goes for anything else I spend my money on. I work hard for my money, and if I don't feel like I am getting the full value of what I paid for something, I'm going to ask questions. Plain and simple.
If you're questioning the serious vs. fun aspect of leagues, you should direct that argument towards Chad, who has been running leagues for the past two years or so pretty much on his own, without the help of the club. The club backs him up, but he pretty much does things as a independent entity (which is a huge task BTW). Judging by the huge turnout that leagues get, I would have to say you are in the minority when it comes to that argument, too. I would imagine most players who frequent leagues would say that they have 'fun'.
I may not support every direction that the club wants to take, but I wish them all the best. I worked hard for this club for nearly 4 years, and I feel that I left my stamp on things and I'm happy with that. I can only hope that the new leadership takes a responsible approach to every venture that they take on. I feel that I always approached club activities with the spirit of disc golf as my main goal. Just like Evan said, the goal is to have fun, and you shouldn't have to try hard to accomplish that.
Peace.

I think it's good and healthy to discuss things like how events are being run or other club-related stuff. Ideally, that's the purpose of these kind of discussion boards. It's not just some kind of counter-productive questioning of everything.I really only write on here for two reasons; either to respond to somebody else's questions/discussion, or to try to facilitate a discussion to see what other people's opinions are. The latter was the case with this thread... I just thought it would be interesting to see what people had to say about a somewhat unusual scenario.
As a great example, check out the Mile High forum right now. They are in the midst of a thoughtful and respectful conversation about whether their weekly doubles should be a completely random draw, or a pro/am mixed pairings format. Opinion is split on the matter, but many golfers are chiming in with their opinion, and I think that kind of discussion leaves everybody more knowledgable and thoughtful about the given subject. I think it's great!

Bill might be talking about how a few local pro's think they have the final say or should have the say about any activities the club is pursuing. Maybe, I am wrong. I have seen a lot of things that have bugged me about the club. For example, Club meeting times were not announced, decisions from meetings not announced, club money is spent without announcing projects to the club members, and taking entries money from lower level players and putting it towards the Pro's prizes (CO State at Red Feather, Meltdown, and Grateful). I don't know who was responsible for any of things listed above. This is why I share some of Bill's sentiments about the club. Honestly, I read B.'s reply:"It seems odd that you would stop playing disc golf altogether because you got rubbed the wrong way over some disagreements you had with the club. That says more about you than the club IMO." and think... wow, what an not a very nice person statement.
Personally, I have tons of respect for Bill. Bill has always been straight up and is one of the nicest disc golfers in Fort Collins.

Just an FYI for the record: Grateful Disc is always a Wright Life event. The club doesn't really have anything to do with it. It's Bill Wright's tournament. Likewise, States (when it was held in Redfeather) was primarily a Wright Life run event. The club helped with a lot of the grunt work of preparing courses and even day-of organization, but all the players pack stuff and payout and all that was handled by Bill.
I think people don't realize that the club doesn't always have much of a say when it comes to events in the area. It takes a lot of work to run that stuff, and it's usually those tournament directors that step up to that task, who get to make most of the decisions when it comes to that kind of stuff. For example, this last season I ran the Red Feather Open tournament, as well as the Halloween Glow event. I determined the payout and all that stuff for those events and take full responsibility for them. As B said, Chad runs league and calls all the shots in that regard. So keep that stuff in mind, when criticizing the club for that kind of stuff...
Also, consider the hypocracy inherant in calling somebody out (a$$hole statement) for calling somebody else out... Let's be civil, now.
Otherwise, I think your concerns are legitimate. Not sure if they are the same as Bill's or not. As usual, Bill only offers a vague statement of discontent, but when asked to elaborate so that his views can truly be considered... nothing. Hard to offer a constructive response in that case. That was one of my greatest frustrations over the last few years of working for the club. If people don't tell you what they want to see, then how do you know to show it to them? It's easy enough to post things like meeting minutes and or treasury statements and other stuff like that, but nobody ever asked. The club leadership was and is always accessible via phone, email, this forum, etc. Unfortunately, too many people are content to just sit back and grumble to their friends about how they think the club leadership is doing stuff wrong, but they never actually bring those concerns to the leadership themselves. As a club official, if you don't ever hear any specific complaints about something, you assume it's going well. It's very confusing and frustrating to only hear complaints well after the fact. It's your club people! Speak up, participate a little bit, and make it what you want it to be! That's why this kind of forum can be useful. Personally, I can say that during my time with the leadership, I never once blew off anybody that came to me with concerns. As anybody who ever emailed me with a question can attest, I always responded promptly with explanations and follow-up questions and tried to help. You try to work hard and do right by the club members, but there is only so much you can do when the process breaks down because people won't participate in it. All right, that's enough of a rant for now.
Peace - Evan

I wasn't "calling somebody out", and that's like putting words in my mouth. Only sharing my opinion about a statement that rubbed me wrong. Note, I sent a follow up post to try to clarify that the board changed my words to "not a nice person". B is a nice person. B and a lot of other disc golfers have done tons more then I have for Fort Collins disc golf, so please don't get me wrong. I appreciate and respect all of the people that donate their free time for such a good cause.
There are a hundreds of members in the club, and there has never been a focal point to share communications to its members. This is why the majority of the members don't know when the board meets in order to participate. Or, maybe it was only me. It's hard to expect for someone to call all of the club members about upcoming meetings, decisions, and possible directions the club might pursue. This is another reason why the club should use this board for communicating to the members.
By the way, I am impressed with this years meeting notes and I am glad to see some interesting activity on this board.

It was brought to my attention that more people would be able to attend the meetings if they were held on Sundays and Mondays. So there was a vote and it was decided that we would alternate meeting days. Here is the new schedule. All of the meeting will be held at 6:00pm at Mulligans. We had 9 people show up at the last meeting, that's got to be some kind of record.. Thanks to all that were able to attend.
Jan 3 Feb 6 Mar 7 Apr 3 May 16 June 12 July 11 Aug 7 Sept 12 Oct 2 Nov 14
Thanks for your interest in the club. Hope to see you all there.
